Why Confidentiality Matters in Costa Rica Investigations
Confidentiality in Costa Rica investigations is especially critical for several reasons unique to the country and to U.S. clients:
- Small community dynamics: Costa Rica's expatriate community is close-knit. Information leaks can have immediate and serious social and business consequences.
- Cross-border implications: Many of our cases involve both U.S. and Costa Rican legal systems. Premature disclosure can compromise cases in both jurisdictions.
- Subject awareness: If the subject of an investigation learns they are being investigated, they may destroy evidence, move assets, or flee the jurisdiction.
- Safety considerations: In some cases, revealing a client's identity or investigation could create physical safety risks.
- Legal strategy protection: In cases that may proceed to litigation, confidentiality protects your legal strategy and maintains the element of surprise.
- Business relationships: Many of our clients are business professionals whose reputations depend on absolute discretion in sensitive matters.
